So before I post up any pictures, I should say the Celts lost surprisingly :( But Gay from the Grizzlies gave a stunning performance. My mom not only got herself, my little brother, and I courtside seats, but we were right next to the hoop, literally the first two seats. So yes, we were looking right at KG when he does that thing with his head on the pole lol.

Inside Life: The Elderly & Literacy

So I was randomly in Golden Krust sitting down eating a Jamaican dish before catching my bus to Boston, I think I was going to leave to Jamaica for that weekend also. As I was sitting, I overheard the one customer and the employee talking. From my understanding, the woman said she couldn't read the menu. I have a lot of sympathy and empathy for people, TRUST ME, I'm aware of my good heart...but I had different thoughts after witnessing this.

The elderly is not going to always have the excuse of not being able to read or write because they didn't have that opportunity (in America). I will not speak for any other country because I do not live there and I am not aware of the circumstances. But, it's 2010 and that generation that can actually use that excuse is already on their way of leaving us and passing on their wisdom and knowledge to the next generation, if they haven't already done so. Times are changing and opportunities in life are only getting better. The human being is only getting smarter. There are TOO, too, TOO, too many opportunities in America for everyone here, and EVERYONE is actually able to get an education. It doesn't matter who you are because America is not age-prejudice when it comes to an education, they welcome everybody.

What I really wanted to do was get up from my seat and say to that lady, "you know you can still get your GED right? You know you're in America right? The land of freedom. Education in America is not sex-prejudice, religion-prejudice, orientation-prejudice, or etc when it comes to an education because there are young, old, skinny, fat, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Atheists, men, women, gays, bisexuals, asexual, straight, and etc that are all currently getting an education right now. So for you to stand here in front of this menu and ask this employee to tell you what she has is sad, because you're in a country where they are offering you so many opportunities and you're not taking advantage of the same very thing that can help you read what's on THIS MENU." I'm not sure if it was something to get mad about, but she was also being rude and very dependent. It's not that she couldn't see, but she couldn't read. Maybe I over-thought it, but I think everyone should take advantage of the opportunities America gives once you're in its territory.

Inside Life: Hustling

Desperate times call for desperate measures. New York City. College. Tuition. Sitting pretty. Drake. Smiling. These are the first set of words that I thought of when I thought "hustling". Why Drake? Well because that's who I'm listening to right now: "Money to Blowwwwwww". Other than the random Drake, these words are my life right now. I have money, but I need more money. That's what a lot of us need.

When the average person thinks "hustling", they think Rap, Jay-Z, Biggie, Brooklyn, Chi-Town, drugs, etc. Lies. Hustling is not just what your hear/see via media. The other day my dad and my sis came to NYC to spend a day with me around the city. After the day was over, we took the train and there was an episode where I displayed an act of hustling and my dad caught on. We were at the train station, I won't go into details, but basically I found a way to not waste our money that was totally legal. Afterward, my dad looked at me with a long pause. I said, "dad, you gotta hustle ya know." He laughed and he understood EXACTLY what I was talking about because he comes from a rough upbringing.  That's when I started to realize how much I hustle since being independent, now that I moved away to college. We all hustle EVERYDAY and we may not even notice it. You have to hustle for the benefit of something happening next in your life, well I do. I come from a set of immigrants that migrated from America to better their lives, seek opportunity, and start a family totally opposite of how their own parents started their families. They transformed themselves into a successful middle class family in America which deserves a round of applause.

I want more. The media doesn't help. My parents having strong & strict principles about life because of their own upbringing doesn't help AT ALL. My parents do give me the things I want/need if I deserve it, but I want more, and I want to get it on my OWN. I am not a brat. I am different. When I say more, I mean money. When I say I want more money, I want it for different reasons. I don't want it for material things. I want it for more education. I want it to HELP people since that sadly costs money nowadays. I want it to travel all seven continents. I want it just to say I "got" it, to never feel worried, or to never have to shuffle. But nowadays, I have to do major SHUFFLING and hustling in order for me to live the life I want to live. I want to sit pretty. I want to go to Jamaica every other weekend. I want to get a few outfits every now and then. Sometimes my parents don't agree with this since they want my entire focus to be in school, so eventually I get these because I hustle.  I do nothing illegal, but I think street-smart. I save and don't spend foolishly. Moving away from home to NYC for school was an eye-opener. Living in NYC teaches you a lot. I hustle everyday in this place and I love the feeling because in the end I get everything I want, as well as a life-lesson. The things you "gotta" do, the hustling you "gotta" do is sometimes essential if you really want to live your life. It's memorable, it's worth it, and in the end it makes you more of an independent person and helps you single out exactly what you want in life.

Some pics of my mom, cousin, and I at Foxwoods Resort Casino for my 19th birthday. Peep the lobsters they had at the Festival Buffet Restaurant...monstrous creatures.

Inside Life: 9 Months

Another new inside, "Inside Life" is self-explanatory. It's a broad topic but that's how it is meant to be. It suddenly occurred to me why having a baby after 9 months is so special. Randomly I began to think of babies, abortions, and death of an infant at an early age. For 9 whole months women are set out to carry a baby in their stomach, sometimes 9 whole PAINFUL months.

Imagine if it only took a month for a woman to have a baby? I strongly believe the importance of babies would be less special than it is today. Females would be having babies every month like it's water running. And perhaps, losing a baby wouldn't be as hurtful as it would be after 9 months. 1 month is a short period time. During the woman's 9 months, the mother becomes close to her unborn infant through the pain and the physical communication the two are having. The mom already becomes spiritually attached to her child. The pain and other things she had to go through explains why a mom is so heart-broken after an infant dies after child birth. She was already attached, in love. I realized how much "9 months" is so important. I realized how that period of time can make another human being fall in love with another human being, and physically put that human being on earth. The love becomes powerfully strong merely because of the longevity of 9 months.
